  • Reveal God's loving justice in this world, and especially amongst the poor and marginalised in my neighbourhood.

“If our church is not marked by caring for the poor, the oppressed and the hungry, then we are guilty of heresy.” – St Ignatius.

While each commitment needs equal attention, this commitment expresses the key charism that has brought those in Urban Vision together. We recognise God’s heart is for the poor, as is clearly shown throughout the Bible (eg Jer 9:23-24, Mt 25:34-40 & Lk 4:18-21 etc). And just as Jesus chose to empty Himself and be with the poor on earth, we also choose to relocate to poor and marginalised communities to incarnate His love. We seek justice, reconciliation and transformation in our context and beyond. The Kingdom of God is free of poverty and oppression – we work for this on earth as it is in heaven. We long for all to know Jesus, who is perfect love. We strive to live with only what we need, not indulging our wants. We are not driven by simplicity, but committed to love which demands simplicity.
